The A-Z of Networking KnowHow from V to X

If you’re networking for business and are seeking effective business networking tips, tricks and advice then read our business networking guide of Do’s and Don’ts from A to Z.
Every week we’ve been sharing some networking points that will resonate with you…some for the right reason and some for the wrong! All of them will enable you to develop better business connections and sales opportunities, receive referrals and know how to network. This week we’re looking at your vision and subsequent wish-list and whether you have the X Factor!

V

Valued – Everyone likes and needs to feel valued. A thanks is great ( and essential!) but when someone has gone that extra mile you should pull out all the stops – a card, a gift, a bunch of flowers. Say THANK YOU and mean it.

Vision – In order to realise your dreams and aspirations it’s imperative to have a clear idea of exactly what they are. Sit down with pen and paper and write down your visions for the future – whether a list, a picture or a mind-map, where do you want to be in 2, 5 yrs time?

Vibrant – Surrounding yourself with like- minded business professionals that have the same goals as you will certainly ensure your meetings are lively, positive and vibrant – a joy to attend and a great forum that you’d be delighted to promote.

Viagra – Umm what to write…. There are many different types of networking from the soft option to the real hard core – identify where your skills lie and what the end goal needs to be.

W

Wish List – Know what you want to achieve both long and short term.  The Aston Martin will be achievable if you plan and achieve your potential through thoughtful, successful networking. Who do you wish to do business with that will spur on your growth? Decide and ask for introductions.

Warm – As we’ve already mentioned networking is about building strong relationships. It’s about people getting to know you and your business to the degree that they like and trust you enough to introduce you to their clients or friends. A warm introduction, preferably over lunch or a coffee will bring greater opportunities; your foot will be in the door – now it’s up to you!

Wakey Wakey – If you’ve joined a morning networking meeting do remember to set your alarm and be there on time.  Those that rock up late or at the last minute are giving subliminal messages about how they operate in business – flying by the seat of their pants!

Weirdo – How do you escape when you get trapped? “I’ve taken up a lot of your time I’m sure there are other people you’d like to meet – let me introduce you to…” Then, calmly run…

X

X’cited – Remain at all times passionate and enthusiastic at work and at play. Allow yourself to get really excited about a great deal or transaction, the completion of a project - CELEBRATE your achievements!

Xylem – This complex vascular tissue gives support and strength to tall plants – aim high, find your support and strength in the people around you and in return offer them like-wise, but also your commitment, encouragement and friendship.

X’it – Never be afraid to admit that you’ve made a mistake – it’s how you deal with it that counts. Communication, open and honest is the key. If you need to walk away do so with good grace and with your honour intact.

X – Factor – What makes you different from your competition, why should people use you or your services? Identify your USP and shout it from the roof tops!

Build relationships, create opportunities and remember you don’t need to have high-waisted trousers to make your business a success!
